Law 11

Offside

The most argued law in football, explained in three sentences.

A player is offside if any part of the head, body or feet is in the opponents’ half, beyond the second-last opponent, and ahead of the ball when a team-mate plays it. Being in an offside position is not an offence — only becoming involved in play is. Hands and arms do not count.

The myth to drop

Myth: level is offside. Level is onside. The attacker gets the benefit of the doubt.
