You’ll Never Walk Alone
A show tune from Carousel that became the most recognisable club anthem in the world. The Kop sang it before a match in 1963 and never stopped.
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart — and you’ll never walk alone.
When it is sung
Sung before kick-off, at half-time and in the last five minutes when the team needs it. Also sung by Celtic and Dortmund, with the same words.
A club song is not entertainment. It sets the stadium’s tempo, signals to players that the crowd still believes, and in a silent match it can be the only pressure the away team feels.
